Frequently asked questions - Brisbane

Q. What are the terms and conditions for renting a bike from Brisbane?
A. There are specific terms and conditions for each of the Brisbane depots, depending on which bike you are renting. There are also general terms & conditions for bike rentals. The specific terms and conditions for each bike can be seen by selecting the 'terms' link for the appropriate bike, or you can click here, for the general terms and conditions.

Q. Where is the depot located / where do I collect my bike?
A. We have a number of collection options for Brisbane depending on which bikes are available for your booking. A BikeRoundOz representative will explain the options to you at the time of booking but to summarise: Some bikes are available to collect a short distance from the centre of Brisbane, others are stationed in Noosa to the north of the city. The Noosa based bikes can be collected from Noosa (approximately 2 hours north via transfer coach) or alternatively we will arrange to have them transported to your hotel / accommodation in Brisbane for an associated cost.

If you have any questions regarding the arrangements then please just contact us and we will be happy to provide further information.

Q. Can I leave luggage at the depot during my trip and / or what if I need to ship it to another city?
A. You are welcome to leave your luggage at the depot during your trip and there is no charge. Any post office can ship your luggage to another depot for you or we can put you in touch with a courier company that will ship it for you. Many people use large soft holdalls for their luggage so they can put the contents in the panniers, fold up the bags and take them with them. If you are travelling alone then a waterproof holdall can always be strapped to the pillion seat for extra storage capacity.

Q. What are the depot opening hours?
A. Monday to Friday - 9am to 5pm. Saturday and Sunday are by appointment only.

Q. Can I rent a helmet and riding equipment?
A. Helmets, gloves, jackets, trousers and boots can all be rented but if you are on a longer trip it is often more comfortable to bring your own and they fit better. No guarantees are made for riding gear and it is rented at your own risk. Please contact us for more information about clothing and accessories.

Q. What is the security bond and insurance excess?
A. The security bond is processed on your credit card and refunded upon safe return of the undamaged bike. The insurance excess is the most you would have to pay in the event of an accident. If the damage is only AU$100, for example, then that's all you pay but if the damage is AU$6,000 and the excess is AU$4,000 you would be liable for AU$4,000 and the insurance pays the remainder. You can half the excess with an additional payment if you wish.

Q. What license do I need and what else should I bring when collecting the bike?
A. For large capacity bikes you will need a full bike license written in English. If it is not in English you will need an International Drivers Permit. For small capacity bikes and scooters your home country license must allow you to ride the size of bike you are renting. You will also need your passport if from overseas and a VISA or Mastercard for the rental payment and security deposit. Don't forget to bring the booking confirmation with the address and telephone number of the depot so you can find it when you arrive!

Q. Can I rent a Sat-nav for my trip?
A. GPS / sat-nav units are available to hire. However, numbers are limited so if you would like to use a GPS - please advise us at the time of booking so we can ensure you are allocated a unit. You can contact us about this offer if you have any questions.

Q. Are locks supplied?
A. Yes. A lock is supplied and should be used every time you leave the bike.

Q. Will my mobile phone work in Australia and will I be able to get a signal?
A. Check with your phone company to see if they can turn on roaming allowing you to use your phone in Australia. It may be cheaper to buy a SIM card for your phone here (mobile phone shops are everywhere and SIM cards start at about AU$20). Mobile phones obtain a signal in almost all towns and cities, but outside built up areas reception can be patchy. In most outback regions it can be many hundreds of kilometres between towns and there will most likely be no signal at all in these areas.

Q. What happens if I break down?
A. The depot will provide you with a number and you should call this to see if it is something simple they can fix over the phone. The best solution to a serious problem depends on where you are and what the problem is. The depot will do everything they can to get you moving again and this is usually within 24 hours. It may involve a repair, replacement bike or alternative transport but the priority is to allow you to continue your trip. Specific terms and conditions apply to our self guided tours including accommodation.
