Frequently asked questions - Harley Davidson Motorcycles

Q. What are the terms and conditions for renting a Harley Davidson?
A. These can be seen by clicking here for the rental terms and conditions.

Q. What do the kilometre allowances mean?
A. Unlimited
There is no daily limit for distance travelled, roam as far as you like. Conditions do apply though which you can learn about here.

Q. What does 'Weekend rental' mean?
A. Weekend rentals are classed as 4pm collection on the Friday through to 10am return the following Monday, picking up and dropping off from the same depot. Prices displayed are for the full rental period, not per day as with the other listings.

Q. Can I leave luggage at the depot during my trip and / or what if I need to ship it to another city?
A. You are welcome to leave your luggage at the depot during your trip and there is no charge. Any post office can ship your luggage to another depot for you or we can put you in touch with a courier company that will ship it for you. Many people use large soft holdalls for their luggage so they can put the contents in the panniers, fold up the bags and take them with them. If you are travelling alone then a waterproof holdall can always be strapped to the pillion seat for extra storage capacity. Please note: If you elect to have your luggage shipped with one of the courier company then we can help make the necessary arrangements, but the final responsibility for the transport is with the courier / shipping company as they are not part of BikeRoundOz. Further details are available in the terms and conditions.

Q. Why are the older bikes lower cost?
A. The older bike models are still subject to strict safety and maintenance standards, they've simply travelled further than the rest of the fleet. They are offered at a reduced price over the newer models because of this and the price reduction often makes them a great value option for anyone that isn’t concerned with riding the latest edition of a specific bike. They are kept available on the fleet because they are still in good, reliable mechanical condition and offer a cost effective option for those riders on a tighter budget.

Q. Can I rent a helmet and riding equipment?
A. Good quality helmets & gloves are included free for the rider and textile jackets can be rented but if you are on a longer trip it is often more comfortable to bring your own equipment. No guarantees are made for riding gear and it is rented at your own risk. Prices can be seen on the Sydney rental page.

Q. What is the security bond and insurance excess?
A. Security bond amounts will vary depending on the bike you rent, the amount is listed against each bike on the rentals page. Rentals of fewer than 21 days (excluding one way relocations) are processed as a 'pre-authorisation' against a credit card. If the rental is 21 days or more then the security deposit/bond is processed on a credit card and refunded upon safe return of the undamaged bike. Your bond will automatically expire once the bike is returned but please bear in mind we have no control over how long the funds take to reach your account. It can take a number of days and this is determined by your bank, not ours.

The insurance excess is not pre-authorised or processed on your card. It is the most you would have to pay in the event of an accident. If the damage is only AU$100, for example, then that's all you pay but if the damage is AU$6,000 and the excess is AU$4,000 you would be liable for AU$4,000 and the insurance pays the remainder. You can reduce the excess by half for AU$18.00 per day as long as your rental is for 7 days or more.

Q. What license do I need and what else should I bring when collecting the bike?
A. For large capacity bikes you will need a full bike license written in English. If it is not in English you will need an International Drivers Permit. For small capacity bikes and scooters your home country license must allow you to ride the size of bike you are renting. You will also need your passport if from overseas and a VISA or Mastercard for the rental payment and security deposit. Don't forget to bring the booking confirmation with the address and telephone number of the depot so you can find it when you arrive!

Q. Can I rent a Sat-nav for my trip?
A. Yes, costs are detailed on the main rental page.

Q. Can I bring my own Sat-nav / GPS unit for my trip?
A. Yes you can, no problem at all. We can fit your GPS unit to the bike for a one-off charge of AU$ 20.00, but you will need to ensure that you bring along everything required to mount the GPS such as the power cable, cradle etc. as we can't guarantee we'll have the correct equipment to match your specific unit.

Q. Are locks supplied?
A. Yes. A lock is supplied and should be used every time you leave the bike.

Q. Will my mobile phone work in Australia and will I be able to get a signal?
A. Check with your phone company to see if they can turn on roaming allowing you to use your phone in Australia. It may be cheaper to buy a SIM card for your phone here (mobile phone shops are everywhere and SIM cards start at about AU$20). Mobile phones obtain a signal in almost all towns and cities, but outside built up areas reception can be patchy. In most outback regions it can be many hundreds of kilometres between towns and there will most likely be no signal at all in these areas.

Q. What happens if I break down?
A. The depot will provide you with a National Breakdown recovery number, but you should first try and talk to the depot in case it is something simple they can fix over the phone. The best solution to a serious problem depends on where you are and what the problem is. The depot will do everything they can to get you moving again and this is usually within 24 hours. It may involve a repair, replacement bike or alternative transport but the priority is to allow you to continue your trip. Specific terms and conditions apply to self guided tours including accommodation, which can be found on the relevant tour section of this site.

Q. What do I do about toll roads?
A. BikeRoundOz vehicles are registered so that tolls incurred by you when using any Australian toll road will be recorded and billed to you directly by NSW Roads & Maritime Services (RMS). Full details regarding tolls are available in the terms and conditions and you will be required to sign that you have read and understood the conditions of using the toll system when you collect your motorcycle.
