A Sydney Weekend Adventure
An introduction to the roads less travelled...
You may have ridden the Blue Mountains, Hunter Valley and surrounding roads already, but how well do you really know your own backyard? Have you explored the gravel tracks littered throughout this beautiful region? Ridden the hidden twisties? Delighted at the oft-ignored vistas or enjoyed friendly country hospitality so close to the city?
Perhaps you’ve always wanted to but are concerned about losing your way, being out of your depth on unsealed roads or not having help in the event of a problem. Well now’s your chance to discover what’s really out there, all with some friendly support and a helping hand.
This tour is for riders new to gravel roads (or anyone less confident on anything other than asphalt) that are keen to discover what’s in those remote regions of the spectacular national parks and forests right on Sydney’s doorstep. The ride will take you north and west of the city into pristine forests and parkland, along the Hawkesbury River and through Wollemi National Park to Colo Heights and many other lesser known regions unfamiliar to the majority of those living in and around Sydney.
Join us and a bunch of like-minded riders on this new adventure riding weekend. Make new friends and explore the spectacular scenery and riding right on your doorstep. It will be a small (maximum of 10 bikes), intimate group supported the whole way by a lead rider, support vehicle and as much advice and help as you need. Perfect if you’re new to riding on gravel roads and tracks.

Leave the depot in Annandale and ride to the Blue Mountains through Colo Heights, Upper Colo and via the Hawkesbury River to our destination for the night. There’s a combination of good, hard packed narrow gravel roads twisting and turning through the bush alongside cliff faces and some interesting, more challenging descents and climbs. Our accommodation has beautiful river and bush views, plus you’ll often see kangaroos feeding and sunning themselves in the fields nearby. Lunch is included and dinner is at a local club with friendly banter, good food and stories of adventure on the road!
The initial ride from Sydney is on sealed roads for around 90km, with the remainder of the day’s ride being mostly gravel.
Sunday morning will see us leave the riverside, taking a couple of ferry rides over the Hawkesbury River to Wisemans Ferry. We’ll ride through the historic town of St Albans and along part of the convict built Great North Road. We’ll then cross into the remote and beautiful Wollemi National Park exploring the tracks and trails through pristine eucalypt forest, before lunching amongst the pine trees in Watagans National Park. There are more narrow gravel roads through the bush on the way to Heatons Lookout providing some spectacular views. The return trip to Sydney takes around 1.5hrs on sealed roads and we'll arrive late Sunday afternoon with a smile on our faces and a hunger for more!
A fantastic introduction to both riding on gravel and the lesser-known areas around Sydney, we look forward to seeing you for a great weekend!
